Chapter 3: Beyond the island of Jamaa

Liza finally stepped onto the path of the unknown wilderness. She took a deep breath and started walking, her cane snapping twigs whenever it hit the ground. Liza passed a small creek with frogs croaked and small fish splashing about. She passed an old tree with squirrels running up and down it's trunk and birds nesting in it's branches. It's so peaceful here. The panda Shaman thought. It's perfect. Suddenly, a loud roar echoed through the air. Liza looked around, alarmed. What had made that sound? Then, a very large lion leaped out from behind Liza. It had huge teeth and giant claws. It snarled at the panda shaman and took a step forward. Liza stepped back, trying not to show her fear. Liza stepped on something hard and smooth. It was a rock. Liza slowly knelt to the ground and picked it up. The lion snarled and shook it's mane. It suddenly lunged at her and snarled loudly. Liza quickly jumped back and threw the rock at the lion's head. The lion cried out and leaped back. Liza turned tail and ran through the woods as fast as her legs could carry her. She heard sticks snapped behind her. The lion was chasing Liza! Liza's heart pounded as she ran through the woods. I'm a goner! Her thoughts screamed. Suddenly, she heard a another roar and Liza's heart almost stopped. Anopther lion! But then, a bear flew out of the bushes and barrelled into the lion. The two animals fought, snarling and growling. Liza inhaled a relieved breath and sprinted into the forest. Not stopping for anything. Liza ran for hours. She ran until the sun finally set. The panda shaman looked and looked for a place to sleep. She finally found a dark cave where she rested. Liza then heard a deep growlign coming from the back of the cave. Her eyes flew open and she ran out of the cave, heart pounding in her chest. That night, Liza slept on the soft grass. She then fell into a light and dreamless sleep.
